Rooijakkers, Van Hummel, Goesinnen and Curvers stay on at Skil-Shimano

Skil-Shimano has extended to next season the contracts for four Dutch cyclists: Piet Rooijakkers, Kenny van Hummel, Floris Goesinnen and Roy Curvers.

Rooijakkers and Van Hummel are currently in their third season as pros. Rooijakkers (27) is one of the mainstays of the team managed by Iwan Spekenbrink. The all-rounder prefers courses with short climbs, short time trials and smaller stage races and loves going into the offensive (in 2007 he received the Amstel Gold Race Herman Krott Trophy for most aggressive rider). His best result this season has been seventh place in the general classification of the Star Elektro Tour. Kenny Van Hummel has earned a string of podium finishes in Skil-Shimano’s colours, winning his first race as a professional in an international event at the Tour of Noord-Holland in 2007. The 26-year-old sprinter has come close to notching his second victory this year, in the Tour of Belgium, the Ster Elektrotoer (where he finished third both times) and in Veenendaal-Veenendaal (where he finished fourth).

Floris Goesinnen (26) joined the pro peloton in Skil-Shimano colours halfway through the 2006 season. In the past year Goesinnen has become an important member of the team in the spring classics. This year’s appearances include the Tour of Flanders, Ghent-Wevelgem, Paris-Roubaix (Goesinnen was the highest placed Dutchman last year), Amstel Gold Race, Flèche brabançonne and Liege-Bastogne-Liege. Roy Curvers (28) made his pro peloton debut for Skil-Shimano this season. His best performances come in one-day races. Curvers is a team-player with good tactical insight.
