THERE’S NO STOPPING VIVIANI. Back-to-back wins in Calabria and the overall
Liquigas-Cannondale’s sprinter steals the show

A fantastic end to the Giro della Provincia di Reggio Calabria for Liquigas-Cannondale. Following yesterday’s celebrations, Elia Viviani went for two in a row and won the second and final stage of the race (191 km from Lamezia Terme to Reggio Calabria), as well as the general classification. The Italian sprinter received outstanding support from his teammates and completely dominated the sprint to beat Colli and Richeze to the finish. This is Viviani’s fourth success on the roads while the victory tally for this season, including toady’s GC win, is now up to five.

«Today’s goal was to be one of the first over the line and more importantly bring home the general classification, » explained Viviani «Winning the second stage was the icing on the cake, which I did thanks to the incredible work of my teammates: their trust in me and that of DS Volpi was a massive incentive. I’m really happy with the back-to-back wins but knowing how much my condition has improved is even more satisfying: my stamina on climbs has improved a lot and this was what I hoped for in light of my next races. »

Viviani now takes a break from road racing to compete in the fourth round of the Track Cycling World Cup in London from 17th to 19th February. He’ll be wearing the Italian jersey for the event which is a crucial step on the road to winning a place on the team at this year’s Olympic Games. The Paris-Nice from 4th to 11th March will mark Vivian’s return to the group. «These two dates are very important for my season: I want to return to London for the Olympic Games in July, and in France I want to improve my performance in World Tour racing.» concluded Elia.
